Greta Carlson, Psy.D., ABPP is a board-certified clinical child and adolescent psychologist who earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from George Washington University’s Professional Psychology Program. Prior to her work at WACCH, Dr. Carlson was a staff and supervising psychologist at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress. She completed her residency in child and adolescent psychology at the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment and her post-doctoral fellowship in trauma, PTSD, and dissociative disorders at Sheppard Pratt Health System’s Trauma Disorders Program. Dr. Carlson completed an APA-accredited internship at Friends Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents with anxiety, mood, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She gained experience in the treatment of emotional dysregulation and self-injurious behaviors.
Dr. Carlson has extensive experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression, child-directed play therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), in which she is nationally certified. Dr. Carlson also enjoys providing comprehensive psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults ages 3.5 and up. She published a chapter on early childhood psychological assessment in the forthcoming text, Contemporary Psychoanalytic Approaches to Early Childhood Education, and has presented several papers at the Division 39 of the APA’s annual Spring Meeting.
Dr. Carlson is passionate about her work with children, adolescents, and their families and pays especial attention to the quality of the therapeutic alliance. Her areas of clinical expertise include the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders including OCD, mood disorders, and ADHD in children and adolescents.
Dr. Carlson is licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and in PsyPact-participating states. She provides teletherapy, including parent guidance sessions, and in-person psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults.
