Dr. Mark Wahl
Dr. Wahl earned his Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. His predoctoral internship was completed at the Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard Hospital in Philadelphia, a forensic inpatient psychiatric hospital. There, Dr. Wahl worked with patients with acute psychosis and personality disorders utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy.
Prior to joining the Washington Anxiety Center of Capitol Hill, Dr. Wahl worked for the Washington D.C. Department of Youth and Family Services. Dr. Wahl worked within a multidisciplinary team delivering behavioral health services for youth committed and detained in the District of Columbia. There, Dr. Wahl provided CBT and interpersonal psychotherapy to youth with mood disorders and trauma.
Dr. Wahl has several years of experience working with children and youth who are experiencing mood disorders. His doctoral training included intensive outpatient programs with children and youth with chronic depression, anxiety, and OCD. There, he received specialized training in CBT for mood disorders. In 2019, Dr. Wahl received one year grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to provide behavioral health treatment within a multidisciplinary team at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital. Dr. Wahl was able to continue training in interpersonal therapy, family therapy, and CBT with patients and families within a team of multidisciplinary medical professionals.
Dr. Wahl has an interest in attachment theory and integrating attachment and interpersonal based techniques into his therapy. Dr. Wahl utilizes CBT and interpersonal therapy to assist clients with mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, and OCD. He has a particular interest in exposure therapy as well. Dr. Wahl also has experience in working with individuals in the LGBTQ community. Dr. Wahl believes that the client is the expert in their own lives, and that he is there to assist them. He believes that the best approach to therapy is one of collaboration, mutual trust, and open mindedness. At times, Dr. Wahl uses creative approaches in therapy as an alternative to traditional talk therapy and is open to different techniques to address a client’s specific issue. Dr. Wahl understands that therapy can be difficult and uncomfortable at times, and also, he strives to make each client feel unconditionally supported regardless of their presenting issue.
Dr. Wahl sees children, adolescents, and adults in person or via teletherapy. He is joining the practice as a Psychology Associate.
